Unleashing God’s power is directly related to how faithful we are to His promises. God’s love never ends… our faithfulness to his character is what unleashes this power in our lives.
This beautiful sight of the morning sun made me think of these verses… “God’s mercies are new every morning”.
“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
To my surprise, I didn’t find these verses to be on psalm like I expected. They are from the book of Lamentation, chapter 3:22-23. These praise verses are very uplifting but if we read them only, we don’t get the full picture.
It takes verses 1 thru 20 to get to the verse we just read above. 20 verses of lament, hence the name of the book. On these 20 verses Israel laments how God abandoned them into Babylonian exile. This is the picture of God according to the first 20 verses:
- He has driven and brought me into darkness without any light;
- He has made my flesh and my skin waste away, and broken my bones
- Lamentations 3:6
- he has made me sit in darkness like the dead of long ago.
- He bent his bow and set me as a mark for his arrow.
The list goes on and on until verse 20. Very discouraging but honest picture of how hey saw God at that tragic moment.
But then comes verse 21 to connect lament to praise
But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope
This almost stubborn resolve, this never ending grit, this determined faith is what it’s called to mind. We need to stick to God thru the lament to get to that moment to praise him.
Faith is the ability to call to mind God’s character on tough moments. Only then we can have hope.
God’s love is as powerful as our ability to stay faithful to His promises.
